Safeguarding & Staffing Policy

We understand our responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of all people we work with.

Safeguarding

  • Any incidents which may undermine the welfare of a young person will be dealt with, in line with our robust Safeguarding/Child protection policies and procedures and in line with any other relevant company policies. Our policies and procedures are designed in accordance with the principles set out in “Working Together To Safeguard Children (2018)” and in line with the Bradford Children’s safeguarding Board (BSCB) and West Yorkshire Consortium Safeguarding Children Procedures.
  • All staff with access to young people will be subject to an enhanced DBS check
  • All staff with access to young people are made aware of our safeguarding procedures during induction training and their awareness continues to be regularly assessed during on-going supervision and training. In accordance with the requirements of the Care Standards Act 2000, we ensure that all staff employed by the organisation receive annual training in Safeguarding and Child Protection.
  • All staff are responsible for ensuring that all incidents which present a potential risk of significant harm to a young person in our service are reported immediately to the Child Protection Designated

Person. They will then refer directly to LADO, to the Local Authority’s children’s social care, and the placing authority social worker as appropriate. This referral will be followed up in writing.

  • Headway Housing will work in partnership with all relevant professionals and processes to identify, assess, manage and reduce risk to young people. We will work proactively to support the development and implementation of plans to achieve this and actively participate in strategy discussions and other formal and informal processes.

Staffing Policy

The Company is committed to provide the highest quality of support to the young people in placement. It is, therefore, extremely important for us to attract the ‘best people’, to be able to deliver a sophisticated level of support that young people, parents and Local Authorities would expect. The process of recruitment will consider a range of selection techniques, in addition to direct interviews.

All staff will be required to work with vulnerable young people in a semi-independent accommodation setting. Therefore, the appropriate suitability of the applicant regarding specific jobs will be a major area for consideration. There must be a clear match

between the person specification, requirements of the job, and the persons appointed. We welcome candidates from a wide variety of backgrounds; regardless of race, culture, gender, age, sexuality and national origin.

The company will strive to recruit experienced and well qualified staff at all times to fill vacant positions and will not compromise on the requirements for a post simply for the sake of filling a position. All staff recruited will be subject to an enhanced level DBS check, a comprehensive induction/training programme and access to high quality and up-to-date supervision, annual appraisal and opportunities for professional development.
